There is a great article about the show that seems to have overtaken the auditorium interest in the last few days. Even though I find it very crappy, cheap-style show that lures you bye seducing you to see the stupidity of real people on semi-real conditions, it’s a fenomenon for all these western-style countries where it has taken the front sea of TV watchers. No doubt even I was seduced several times waiting in anticipation to see if some intimacy would arise in it. I can tell when it comes to media we are already extremely influenced by the westerners so whatever has been brought to life in the USA or West Europe and turns out to be successful would most likely come here within a year or so. I guess next step is for the local TV stations to attract the very popular “Survival something” shows… happy TV-watchers, happy advertisers, a huge waste of energy and time but after all that’s what the media strives for

A CURIOSITY for some, a major talking point in the bus on the following morning, or “voyeurism” and “major stupidity” for others, reality show Big Brother has made its debut on Bulgarian television – now meet the contestants who will keep hardcore viewers talking, and ratings high, for weeks to come.
No doubt too, the show will remain the highlight of the days, and nights for that matter, for all friends and relatives of the “12 monkeys”, as dubbed by a friend of mine, locked up in the house.
The long-anticipated reality show was launched on October 18 at 8.30 pm on Nova TV.
According to a Nova TV press release, the ratings of Big Brother on its first night were as high as 51 per cent of all viewers in Sofia.
The fact is, that right after the end of the special 90-minute show the Big Brother site from which it supposedly can be streamed 24/7 with 256 kbps was down, and remained so through the rest of the following day.
Internet forums buzzed with discussions of the show and the people in the house.
The first participant that was presented to the viewers was Zdravko, 25, from Primorsko. The short clip showed him running on the beach, and relating that he likes women and yachts. He said that he considered his participation in the show as yet another adventure.
Zdravko’s grandmother and brothers said that they were hoping that he would find a wife among the participants. “If a man does not get married by the age of 27, it will be difficult later,” his grandmother said.
Big Brother resident psychologist Tsanko Tsankov described Zdravko as “spontaneous”.
Mariela, 23, from Veliko Turnovo loves sex, herself, snow in winter, the sea in summer, and taking pictures. Her friends said she likes men passionately and knows how to choose them, and likes to walk around naked so the cameras would not worry her.
“I am a natural blonde,” she said.
Psychologist Tsankov described her as “inquisitive”.
Dimitar, 40, from Sofia but living in London, said he came back especially to take part in Big Brother. For some viewers, he came across as pretentious, with some believing him to be gay, even though he said that he has two daughters.
He said he likes soft jazz, cats and astrology, and also likes cleanness and cooking. “The main challenge for me would to try and reform my character a little,” Dimitar said.
Psychologist Tsankov described him as “rational”.
Anelia, 31, from Sofia has a little daughter. She said she loves flowers, women’s parties and fitness, and her only hobby was sport. “My sister and I heard by chance that they were accepting applications for Big Brother, I applied and here I am,” Anelia said. “I am sure I will get to the final.”
Margarita, 38, from Kyustendil, has a son and likes to play tricks on him. She loves playing billiards, TV and partying and, on entering the Big Brother house was behaving like a two-year-old.
Her parents said she was a madcap and one had to be really patient to live with her.
Psychologist Tsankov described Margarita as “dynamic”.
Naiden is 24, from Sofia, is 200 cm tall and owns a computer club, called The Shit. “If I win the prize, I will buy a yellow Porsche and will go on a trip to Vietnam,” Naiden said. “I am 200 cm tall and all my ex-girlfriends hate me.”
He also said he likes sports cars and long guitar solos.
Psychologist Tsankov said Naiden was “creative”.
The youngest participant in Big Brother is Svetlozara from Varna, 19. She works as a model and likes flying, chocolate, and Angelina Jolie. Svetlozara’s brother said she likes to be looked at and is fearless.
“I can’t picture my daughter working as a model and nothing else,” her mother said. “Perhaps this show would fill up a big gap in her life so far.”
Psychologist Tsankov described Svetlozara as “ambitious”.
Svetlan “Groshi” is 32, from the village of Konstandovo, and likes hanging out with his friends in Plovdiv’s pubs. He likes reading books, eating meat, and drinking rakia.
His friends say he is cool and a good friend even though there is something very primitive in him, while his parents say that he has a difficult personality.
“If I win the money I am going to Cuba,” he said. “There is communism, Fidel Castro, cigars and beautiful women.”
Psychologist Tsankov described Svetlan as “witty”.
Stoika, 25, is from Plovdiv and likes makeup, fresh grapefruit juice, and chalga. Shortly after she entered the Big Brother house, she pulled out from her suitcase a lash mascara and started applying it, looking into one of the mirrors, behind which was hidden a camera.
“Cosmetic products and make-up are very important to me and a great passion,” Stoika said in a thick Plovdiv accent. “I am deeply worried by the fact that I cannot take in the house my black eyeliner pencil and will have to substitute it with something. I will seek professional advice.”
Psychologist Tsankov described her as “impulsive”.
Viktor, 27, grew up in Sliven but works as a dentist in Sofia. “I am glad that if something, God forbid, bad happens, in the house there will be a medic,” Viktor said.
“It would have been nice if you allowed him to bring in the house his dentist chair because someone might get a toothache,” one of his friends said.
His friends said he was a party animal, very open to other people and a great dancer.
“I participate because I don’t like easy things and I think that this is a nice challenge,” Viktor said.
Psychologist Tsankov described Viktor as “pushy”.
Silvia-Alexandra is 25, from Lovech. She said she loves her mother, bearing responsibility, and jogging.
Her friends said she was very emotional, ambitious and good-natured.
“Perhaps I will find a boyfriend in the house,” she said. “I am free, I don’t know whom I might meet in the house, but he could be the man of my life.”
Psychologist Tsankov described her as “tenacious”.
Alidjan is 31, from Sofia and loves his son and football team CSKA. He also likes to eat steaks and read Terry Prattchett. “If I by chance win the prize, which I doubt, I will spend it all,” Alidjan said.
Psychologist Tsankov described Alidjan as “adaptable”.
Probably, in the Big Brother house, as in life, that is an essential virtue.
